Jian Weight Information

An historical forged metal cutting Jian weighs typically from 800g to 1.1KG. A wooden training Jian is usally lighter. Here's some information to help you choose the right weight for you.

Light weight (400g to 574g) : You prefer a lighter weight for your form training and moderate contact applications (most popular with people with practicing mainly forms and some light contact drills and applications)

Light-Middle weight (575g to 699g) : You prefer a weight closer to a real forged metal Jian but still prefer a relatively lighter weight (most popular with people practicing roughly half and half forms and light to moderate contact drills and applications. Ideal for an introduction to contact training and sparring)

Middle weight (700g to 799g) : You prefer a realistic weight very close to a forged metal Jian, you do intensive training and sparring but you still want a Jian not too heavy that will allow you to maintain speed and endurance after long hours of training and/or sparring. (Most popular with well trained Jian practitioners and full-contact combat competitors.)

Full weight (800 to 899g) : You want to feel the full weight of a forged metal Jian in you forms, applications and conditioning but you are aware that you won't be able to train with your Jian over long hours in a row or keep a good speed over an entire full-contact tournament.
