Weight

Choose a weight range or a precise weight. If you choose a precise weight, the weight of your Jian may vary by up to ±30 g from the selected value. For example, if you choose 730 g, the finished weight will range between 700 g and 760 g.

800–950 g: average weight range of a forged steel cutting Jian. Good for conditioning, but may be too heavy for long form training sessions, fine precision work, or high-speed sparring/free play.
700–800 g: most popular range among practitioners doing contact sparring and free play. An ideal balance between realistic weight and the ability to sustain endurance and speed. Betwween 700–760 g is often prefered.
600–700 g: likely the best range for most people focused mainly on extended training sessions of form work, technical contact drills (blade on blade). Can help beginners develop muscle and tendon endurance before moving to a heavier weight, if desired.
450–600 g: ideal for anyone prioritizing lightness for speed and precision, especially when paired with a heavier Jian for conditioning, while still offering proper balance and durability unlike many mass-produced options. Also well suited for smaller adults, teenagers, and some older practitioners.

Notes :

The blade length is measured from the grip side of the guard to the tip, and the grip length does not include the pommel.
You can use the unit of measurement of your choice.
If you prefer to choose the total length of the sword, please specify at least the blade length or ask the craftsman for advice on the ideal Blade/Handle ratio.

Hickory is the most popular and versatile wood. It offers an excellent balance of resistance to impacts and surface hardness while not being too heavy. Be aware that its color can be quite variable, often showing two tones within the same piece. This can be visually striking, but it ultimately depends on your aesthetic preference.

Weight rankings are based on average estimates. In practice, natural variations occur from one plank to another. A piece of a typically lighter wood may occasionally be slightly heavier than a piece of a typically heavier wood, and vice versa. For example, purpleheart, jatoba, and bloodwood are all very close in density, and it is entirely possible for a piece of purple heart to match or slightly exceed the weight of a bloodwood one. Similarly, in ligher woods, an ash piece may sometimes be heavier than a red oak one. That said, these variations remain within a reasonable range—lighter woods will not surpass significantly denser species.

Blade

1. Sparring Blade: Rounded edges and tip for heavy drilling and sparring, safer for a training partner or opponent's body. Can also be used for form training and lighter applications.

2. Technical Blade: Semi-rounded edges and tip, also suited for intensive drilling (blade on blade) and moderate contact applications to a training partner’s body, but unsafe for full-contact sparring.
